Classes Begin November 1st

Tuesdays - 3:45-4:45 Kinder, 1st and 2nd Grades November to May

This class will have interactive activities, songs, and fun cultural crafts.  

Wednesdays - 3:45-4:45, 3rd, 4th and 5th -November to May

This class will also have interactive activities but will be more structured.  

*Minimum number of students are required. Available seats are on a first come first serve basis to keep small class sizes.

Program Goal

To foster world citizens who have cultural and linguistic awareness and who appreciate diversity.

Program Objectives

To learn basic words and phrases in the Spanish language:

• Each session will have 5-10 new Spanish words introduced along with review of previous words.

To appreciate the value of another  language and culture:

• Each session will learn about Spain or Latin America, such as holidays, music, and customs.

Please note that fluency is not expected (and not possible with only weekly interactions) 

Cost

• $200.00 (per student) for personal text, workbook, CD, and 20 weekly 1-Hour sessions and snacks from November 2010 to May 2011.

Foreign Language Benefits

“Foreign language study exposes students to the richness of other cultures and provides perspectives that aid in the appreciation of diversity, helping our kids develop a wider cultural outlook. There is research that shows that learning a foreign language at a young age helps develop important cognitive abilities with the best window of opportunity lasting roughly from age one until puberty, during which second language acquisition is effortless. After puberty, changes occur in the palate and the structure of the brain which make it much harder to learn a new language. TOPS has provided extracurricular foreign language opportunities for their students since 1997
